Celtic vs Lazio Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips - 4 October 2023

Celtic will be looking to secure their first win in the Champions League this season when they welcome Atletico Madrid to Celtic Park on Wednesday night (20:00). The Spanish side are top of Group E with four points under their belt, from their opening two fixtures.

We preview this fixture by picking out a couple of the hottest markets on offer, for this European clash.

Match Odds

Although they are the home side, Celtic are not the favourites for this match. The Hoops are an enticing 5/2 and it is worth noting that they did put up a good fight in their last defeat to Lazio at Celtic Park. You can also back a draw at the same price, while Atletico Madrid are the shorter price of 9/10.

With Celtic having scored past Lazio last time out, both teams to find the back of the net in this encounter is 4/6.

You can back over 2.5 goals at 8/11 but you will find better value in the over 3.5 goals market at 2/1.

Team News

Gustaf Lagerbielke will be back in contention for Celtic, after serving his suspension in the defeat to Lazio last time out. However, Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers will be without Maik Nawrocki, Stephen Welsh, Marco Tillo and Liel Abada on Wednesday night.

Atletico Madrid have a few injury concerns of their own. Stefan Savic is a doubt, after missing the weekend clash with Celta Vigo through illness. Jose Maria Gimenez and Reinildo will also miss the trip to Glasgow, while Caglar Soyuncu is set to return after a month out. Samuel Lino, Memphis Depay and Thomas Lemar are also in the treatment room.

Antoine Griezmann to score anytime @ 6/4

Atletico Madrid’s French superstar, Antoine Griezmann, has been in explosive form this season. The attacker has scored seven goals in his opening nine matches in La Liga, scoring a hat-trick in the win over Celta Vigo at the weekend. Griezmann is now just eight goals shy of becoming the club’s all-time leading goalscorer.

We feel that deficit can be reduced further on Wednesday night, when he comes up against Celtic in Glasgow. Griezmann is also off the mark in Europe this campaign, with the French international netting against Feyenoord last time out on home soil.

He is the biggest threat Celtic will have to deal with, when the two teams come together.

20-35 booking points @ 7/4

With these two sides taking to the field on Wednesday night, we are expecting a few cards to be shown. Celtic have already seen five yellow cards in this competition as well as two red cards. Atletico Madrid have themselves seen eight yellows. This is from just two matches, so you can imagine that there will be more to come in this contest.
