Away from the action at Goodwood and Galway on Thursday 3 August, there’s a six-race evening card from the famous Epsom Downs.

The card is highlighted by a pair of Class 4 0-80 handicaps and it promises to be an entertaining night of racing at the home of The Derby.

5.48 – Liseo @ 5/1

Liseo disappointed after running too keen at Salisbury last time out, but that defeat could prove a blessing in disguise for the four-year-old.

Simon & Ed Crisford’s charge was dropped to a mark of 77 after that poor showing, but that represents a career low mark for the son of Lope De Vega and this is the first time that Liseo gets a start in 0-75 company.

The four-year-old was given plenty of chances to win a maiden and, while it’s a little frustrating that Liseo failed to get his head in front, there is plenty of solid place form.

Liseo is having just his tenth career start this time out and this may be the right time the four-year-old to finally break his duck.

8.00 – Dumfries @ 9/1

Dumfries ran with credit when stepping up to a one-mile-and-two-furlongs trip at Sandown last time out, but dropping back down to this distance looks to be a shrewd move.

The three-year-old took a keen hold off a slack pace at Sandown last time out and that contest followed a 109-day break.

However, Marcus Tregoning’s runner moved up into contention at the Esher venue and looked dangerous before those early excursions took their toll.

There’s plenty of pace in tonight’s one-mile-and-one furlong handicap, the Sandown run should have taken the freshness out of the son of Cityscape and that can see Dumfries in a better light.

8.30 – Twilight Dancer @ 6/4

Twilight Dancer quickened well to score over course and distance 14 days ago and a five pound rise is unlikely to stop the unexposed three-year-old.

That was just Twilight Dancer’s second start of turf, which suggests there could be further improvement to come from Johnny Portman’s charge and the bulk of this evening’s opposition have plenty to prove.

Twilight Dancer looks good value to go two-from-two at Epsom.
