We’ve got a whole heap of Champions League action to look forward to on Tuesday night, but with so many short prices, our bet of the day comes from League Two. Below we give you our Football Bet of the Day for Tuesday 7th November 2023.
League Two presents an intriguing clash between Colchester United and Swindon Town after a remarkable FA Cup weekend. Swindon were on the end of one of the biggest shocks of the round as they incredibly found themselves 7-0 down against Aldershot on home soil, before ‘recovering’ to lose 7-4.
Meanwhile, Colchester lost 3-2 to League One side Shrewsbury Town, but gave a good account of themselves away from home. It brings us to Tuesday night’s clash between the two sides, and although a quick look at the table shows Colchester down in 20th and Swindon in 10th, the contrasting form of the two teams could provide us with some value.
Colchester, under the watchful eye of talented boss Ben Garner, had won three of their last four games before the narrow defeat to Shrewsbury. That upturn in form included two away wins in the league, at Grimsby and Accrington, and now they return to home soil to take on Swindon.
Swindon manager Michael Flynn is coming after that shock FA Cup defeat, despite only taking the job in the summer. It marks a poor run of form for Swindon, who have been one of the most entertaining sides at this level, scoring 33 and conceding 24 in their 15 league matches so far.
Their goalscoring ability and more importantly, defensive fragility, make the over 3.5 goals half of this bet a simply choice. Conceding seven goals at home to Aldershot should alarm bells ringing for Flynn and his staff, but the lack of defensive structure has been an issue all season.
They lost 3-2 to MK Dons in the previous fixture, and have conceded five against Wrexham this term. However, in my opinion we can find some excellent value by backing Colchester to win this match and over 3.5 goals. Swindon were wide open against Aldershot and despite a comeback, will have had their confidence significantly dented by that result.
But their poor form actually extends far beyond that FA Cup upset. Across their last six League Two games, Swindon sit third bottom in the form table, having picked up just four points. Meanwhile, Colchester are 19th in the form table, but have won their last two outings in League Two.
We’re backing that upturn in form to continue here, in a goalfest. The 5/1 on offer for Colchester United to beat Swindon Town and over 3.5 goals is generous.
